Cloud coding agents split along four lines. Start from the one that matters most to your team.
OpenComputer runs Claude Code and Codex in our cloud, on one Linux machine per Slack workspace, with each thread in its own copy of the repos on its own branch. You hand it work by mentioning @Computer in Slack or through the API, and it bills per workspace for the minutes the agent actually works. Each comparison above covers when the other product is the better pick.
A cloud coding agent is an AI agent that writes and runs code on a remote machine instead of your laptop. You give it a task from an editor, a chat app, an issue tracker or an API. It works in its own environment, usually a VM or container with your repository, and comes back with a branch or pull request.
Products that run Claude Code or Codex can often sign in with your existing subscription. These include OpenComputer, Boxes.dev and several of the agent platforms and workbenches compared here. Agents with their own harness, such as Devin or Factory, bill their own usage instead.
A workbench is a desktop or web app for running several coding agents in parallel, usually in Git worktrees on your own computer. A cloud coding agent runs each task on a remote machine, so work continues when your laptop is closed. The two are often used together.
OpenComputer is priced per Slack workspace in work minutes, counted only while the agent is working. Pro is $20 a month for 2,000 minutes, Max is $200 a month for 25,000, and there is a free 3-day trial. Bring your own model subscription or key and there is no token charge.
